Rather than having a cooperate figure deciding what to include in their collection, the two bloggers are their own customer so each piece is designed with the fuller figure in mind.</span></p>

<p class="p1"><span class="s1">Whoever said that ‘Plus size’ women don’t buy luxury clearly got it wrong and <a href="https://11honore.com">11 Honoré</a> are here to satisfy all of our luxurious needs.</span></p>
<p class="p1"><span class="s1">The size inclusive designer boutique is “a destination where all women are honoured and luxury has no limits.” It includes ranges from  the Michael Kors Collection, Zac Posen, Rachel Roy and Brandon Maxwell in US sizes 10 to 20 (UK 14-24)</span></p>

<p class="p1"><span class="s1">New York based brand <a href="https://plusbklyn.com">Plus BKLYN </a>features bold, trendy and sometimes even, outrageous downtown styles pioneered by New Yorker Alexis Krase.</span></p>
<p class="p1"><span class="s1">As with a lot of ‘plus size,’ clothing retailers Plus BKLYN was born out of a frustration at the lack of larger sized clothing that wasn&#8217;t boring and didn&#8217;t fit well. You can find the Plus BKLYN store in Williamsburg New York as well as online.</span></p>

<p class="p1"><span class="s1">Ever since we heard the news that <a href="http://www.rebelwilsonxangels.com">Rebel Wilson</a> was going to be launching her own clothing brand we were beyond excited. The fashion-forward, bold collection is all about celebrating your figure rather than hiding it away because #stylehasnosize</span></p>

<p class="p1"><span class="s1">The luxury ‘plus- size’ swimwear collection from <a href="https://alpinebutterflyswim.com">Alpine Butterfly</a> was founded by former Guess model Olga Caro, who, after a shopping trip with her nieces, was shocked by how hard it was for them to find swim-wear for their body shapes.</span></p>
<p class="p1"><span class="s1">The swim collection has a whimsical, boho feel and includes a range of high-waisted bottoms, cropped tops and swim dresses.</span></p>

<p class="p1"><span class="s1">‘Plus size’ model, Candice Huffine was shocked by the lack of activewear for larger sizes whilst training for a marathon. This spurred her to partner with Ziel to create <a href="https://day-won.com">Day/ Won</a>; a line of size inclusive activewear that is made to order and made to empower.</span></p>

<p class="p1"><span class="s1">When you are looking at buying ‘plus size’ clothing you can either have ‘super sexy’  or ‘frumpy sacks’ and there is little in between. At least that is what Erin Cavanaugh and Yi Zhou found when they were talking to their friends and family. They launched See Rose Go to offer a range of easy to wear feel-good clothing.</span></p>

<p><strong>First things first, let’s talk about the fundamentals, pattern size and placement.</strong></p>
<h3><strong>Pattern Size and Placement</strong></h3>
<p>The size of the pattern you wear can have a major impact on how you look. ‘Plus size’ ladies look best wearing patterns that are of a small or medium size as larger patterns can divide the figure into sections.</p>
<p>As a general rule of thumb, ladies who have a petite frame ( women shorter than 5,4) should avoid wearing patterns that are larger than their fist and this would be a great rule to adopt for dressing a fuller figure.</p>

<h3>Fifteenth to Seventeenth-Century Europe</h3>
<p>Double chins were on trend as was pale skin, famously modelled by Queen Elizabeth the 1st who caked herself with white lead face paint.</p>
<p>If you were thin and tanned (in Western culture) this meant that you had to go out in the baking sun to work and couldn’t afford food to eat. Richer society didn’t have to work, so their skin remained pale and there was always plenty to eat.</p>

<h3>Victorian Times</h3>
<p>In the Victorian era, this all changed. The standards of beauty shifted to women with a frail, wispy body type, quite literally embodying the idea of women being ‘the weaker sex’ as the role of women was to obey her husband. (lol)</p>

<h3>The Edwardians</h3>
<p>More robust hourglass body types were en vogue during Edwardian times. The emphasis was on a small waist, large bust and round hips. The corset was all the rage at the time.</p>
<p>Standards of beauty were based on the ‘Gibson Girl’ who had a symmetrical face, tousled hair, tiny waist and wore long skirts.</p>

<h3>Flappers of the 1920s</h3>
<p>By the 1920s, standards of beauty had changed dramatically, yet again. By stepping up during the war and getting the rights to vote, women had gained a lot more freedom. This was reflected in the way they dressed.</p>
<p>Shorter hair and slimmer silhouettes were characteristic of the flapper age.  Boyish shapes were in and womanly curves were out. Women would actually buy shapewear to make themselves appear more flat chested.</p>

<h3>The Depression</h3>
<p>The 1920s ended badly with the Great Depression. This meant that there was a lot of less money to spend on clothes and looking beautiful. While lots of people were going hungry and becoming thin, they aspired for a more rounded ‘wholesome’ shape</p>

<p>The Second World War meant rationing and ‘make do and mend.’ so by the time that the 1950s came around,  people were frankly quite fed up and in the mood for celebrating.</p>

<p>The hourglass figure was popular once again and women embraced the idea of ‘shapewear.’ The corset was long gone but the ‘cone bra’ was very much en vogue.</p>
<h3>Androgyny and Twiggy</h3>
<p>In the sixties, it was cool to be slender. Twiggy, the most famous supermodel of the time, changed the standards of beauty to an androgynous look.</p>

<p>If you thought that the standard of beauty couldn’t get any thinner, think again. Kate Moss known as the ‘skinniest model of all time’ had a tiny BMI of 16 at the height of her career.</p>

<p>As with the 80s, athletic builds were considered beautiful with a lot of emphasis on exercise, such as HIIT and weightlifting.</p>
<p>In the 1990s it also became popular to belittle overweight women and many popular TV series made stereotypes of fat women being greedy, unworthy of love and not very intelligent. Thanks for that guys.</p>
<p>The growing divide between the super thin models and growing waistbands makes it seem like the standards of beauty are unattainable.</p>

<h3>Lane Bryant</h3>
<p>In America, the history of ‘plus size’ fashion goes all the way back to 1904. Lane Bryant started out making maternity clothing but by the 1920s she had turned her attention to create clothing for the “For the Stout Women”</p>

<p>Across the Atlantic, “Evans Outsize” was founded in the 1930s, by the manufacturer Jack Green.  The “Outsize”  has since been dropped. It was the first high street retailer in the UK that made clothes purposefully for the ‘plus size’ woman.</p>

<p>After 40 years as a private company, it was bought by the Arcadia (previously Burton) group.  In 1997 it became the first company in the group to become an e-tailer. Today <a href="http://www.evans.co.uk/">Evans</a> can be found in over 100 countries worldwide.</p>
<h3>‘Plus Size’ Fashion Today</h3>
<p>Where would be without Jack Green and Lane Bryant*? A lot less stylish, that’s for sure.</p>
<p>If it hadn’t been for these two paving the way for ‘plus size’ fashion for generations to come we might still be wearing crinolines and corsets.</p>
<p>Thanks to these pioneers the ‘plus size’ fashion market has flourished all over the world. There are a growing number of retailers who sell clothes just for larger sizes like Simply Be, Yours Clothing, Ann Harvey etc.  But we can also find ‘plus size’ranges at mainstream retailers like River Island, New Look and ASOS.</p>
