<p class="p1"><span class="s1">We absolutely love watching her “How To” and “Haul” videos and she’s actually pretty iconic.</span></p>
<p class="p1"><span class="s1">At Insyze, you know we are all about dressing for our body shapes… so when we saw the <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N4XmHVG6Iss&amp;t=7s">Haul Alert: 5 Items, 2 Plus Size Bodies + One Lost Button</a> video in collaboration with Kellie B from And I Get Dressed, we were like.. yep! This lady genuinely gets it. </span></p>

A few years later, my interest in celebrity culture faded, but my love for fashion remained. After having a conversation with a mentor about wanting to be journalist and presenter (think Giuliana Rancic, with a sprinkle or Joan Rivers and the grace of Oprah Winfrey), he suggested I start my blog up again.</div>

<div>Definitely. I wrote a post about it on my blog, but it’s strange being in an industry that determines whether you’ll get the job or be paid based on the way you look. Obviously, I know what I signed up for. But going from judging yourself as a child and young teenager to now going to castings, and going on set and having others judge you, does put pressure on you. It’s no longer just you seeing your flaws, but others.</div>

<div><b>What’s your advice for aspiring curve models who don’t know where to get started?</b></div>

<div>Use social media to your advantage. Embed yourself in the <a href="https://www.insyze.com/blog/body-positive-messages-from-plus-size-bloggers-to-you/">(plus-size) community</a>, create content that shows your ability and don’t give up.</div>

<div><b>Do you think that the attitude towards plus size women and fashion has changed in the last couple of years? </b></div>

<div>For sure! Look at Cosmopolitan October magazine cover with Tess Holiday wearing just a bodysuit. That wasn’t something you saw on the cover 5…or even 10 years ago. There’s still a lot of things that need to be done, and changes that need to be made. But I trust that it will happen.</div>

<div>I’m still trying to figure it out myself. Recently, I’ve found a song that just lifts my spirits, listened to it ten times, if need be, and danced. I also have a ‘laugh’ saved folder on Instagram, so if I ever feel low I refer to that folder for a pick me up. But most importantly, knowing and reminding yourself that you are worthy, you are enough and tomorrow will be better.</div>

One amazing thing about Instagram is that it connects you with so many inspiring, creative and talented people. It’s how we recently discovered Lauren Nicole, a journalism student/Curve Model/Blogger from London, who should undoubtedly be topping every Rising Star list out there.

<p>The short answer to this is no, after all, you can’t change your bone structure. By adulthood, the bones in your skeleton have set completely and therefore it is virtually impossible for us to do anything to change their shape.  But you can make some changes your appearance through exercise and proper nutrition. Insyze will look at how you can tone and change your body shape as well as increasing your muscle and bone strength.</p>
<h4>Nutrition</h4>
<p>Firstly let&#8217;s talk about proper nutrition:</p>
<p>We all know about the massive health benefits that come from eating a nutritionally balanced diet made up of the four main food groups: carbohydrates, proteins, fats and vitamins and minerals.</p>
<p>Water being the fifth food group.</p>
<p>Most women need to consume between 1,500 &#8211; 2000 kcal per day to keep their bodies functioning normally.</p>
<p>To maintain a steady body weight you need to balance energy intake and output. You lose weight when you use more energy than you take in and put on weight when you eat more calories than you use.</p>
<p>Your body converts these extra calories and stores them as fat tissue. Different body shapes will store the fat tissue in a various places. Apples store fat in their mid-sections whilst pears often store fat around their bum and thighs.</p>
<p>You can reduce your overall body size by maintaining a calorie deficit, which will have an effect on the shape of your body. But dieting doesn&#8217;t let you &#8216;spot reduce&#8217; weight loss, as fat tends to come off evenly from all over you when you lose weight (you will just notice your smaller areas looking smaller faster than where you&#8217;re bigger!)</p>
<h4>Hormone Imbalance</h4>
<p>The hormone Oestrogen, often known as the female sex organ,  plays a vital role in lots of women’s bodily functions like in the menstrual cycle, bone formation (working with vitamin D)and impacting the way in which we distribute body fat.</p>
<p>If your oestrogen levels are a lot less than your levels of testosterone you are likely to store excess fat in your upper body</p>
<p>Women who have been pregnant will know the struggle of shifting that baby weight after giving birth but did you know that this can because you lose some oestrogen during and after pregnancy?</p>
<p>Oestrogen levels decrease as we get older (the menopause) which is why its often a lot harder to loose weight with age.</p>
<h4>Exercise</h4>
<p>Depending on your body shape, we store fat in different places around the body so the types of exercises for changing body shape needs to be different for apples, pears, hourglasses etc.</p>
<p>Hourglass</p>
<p>The proportions of your hourglass figure are already well balanced so we would recommend that your exercise program is equally balanced between your upper and lower body including core and strength training.</p>
<p>Bananas</p>
<p>The banana/rectangular body shape is typically characterised as being ‘straight up and down’ and therefore to change this body shape you would just ‘simply add curves.’</p>
<p>We know what works by the style of clothes that you wear but can you do this on a more permanent basis?</p>
<p>Go for a balanced strength training program to work both your upper and lower body to minimise the size of the waist and create a more hourglass silhouette.</p>
<p>Apples</p>
<p>As with the edible fruit, your core is key so in a battle against the belly bulge, you should work on core muscles.</p>
<p>If you want to work on changing your body shape try building up both your upper and lower body equally to gain the coveted hourglass silhouette.</p>
<p>Pears</p>
<p>When the pear shaped gal gains weight she will normally end up carrying the extra fat in her lower body rather than around the waist or upper body.</p>
<p>The bad news is that the fat stored in the thighs or bum is less metabolically active that upper body fat, so is harder to burn off.</p>
<p>Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but this body shape type is the hardest to try and change.</p>
<p>To try and change your body shape from a pear to the coveted hourglass try to equal out your proportions by toning up your upper body through chest presses or resistance training.</p>
<p>Yoga and pilates are a great way of combatting your ‘thunder thighs’ with ‘the plank’ being a great way of working out those abdominal muscles.</p>
<p>Strawberries</p>
<p>The strawberry, inverted triangle body shape is quite literally opposite to the pear so whilst they focus on equalling out their silhouette through working on their upper bodies, the strawberry should balance out her proportions by working on her lower body through squats etc.</p>
<p>So what’s the verdict?</p>
<p>We asked if its possible to change your body shape and found that the answer is not as straightforward as a simple yes or no.</p>
<p>Your body shape is largely determined by your bone structure and is therefore pretty much set however you can make subtle (or not so subtle) changes through lifestyle choices such as exercise and diet.</p>
<p>If you&#8217;re a pear shape who wishes she could have smaller thighs or an apple shape who wishes she could have a slimmer waist, then you&#8217;re not alone. Accept your body shape for all the beautiful benefits it has. Learn to see what you love, rather than always looking at what you hate about yourself.</p>
<p>And remember, that dressing to flatter your natural body shape is the best thing you can do!</p>

<p class="p1"><span class="s1">We are so proud and inspired to see that the number of plus size bloggers has grown massively as (mostly) women are embracing their bodies and finding a sisterhood of fellow minded plus size women that all celebrating each other&#8217;s differences. We don&#8217;t have to all be stick thin to be beautiful. </span></p>
<p class="p1"><span class="s1">The rise of plus size models such as Tess Holiday, Ashley Graham and Iskra Lawrence has changed the way that the fashion industry sees the plus size market. Many designers like Jean-Paul Gaultier and Lane Bryant have embraced the movement by putting curvy models on the catwalk and on the magazine covers.</span></p>
<h3 class="p1"><span class="s1">Why do we need the Body Confidence Movement in the first place?</span></h3>
<p class="p1"><span class="s1">Ideals in beauty standards for women is hardly a new idea and the history books are full of how members of the ‘fairer sex’ have always tried to fit in with more and more demanding beauty standards. The corset and the hoop skirt are obvious examples.</span></p>
<p class="p1"><span class="s1">We think that society has ‘woken up and smelt the coffee’ and realised that we are all different and are never going to look the same however hard we may try but the idea of a ‘standard of beauty’ is still around and this can have a huge effect on your self-worth</span></p>
<p class="p1"><span class="s1">‘Fat people’ have (and still are) judged by the way they look. I mean, you just have to walk down the street and there’ll be fat-shamers everywhere.</span></p>
<p class="p1"><span class="s1">Nowhere is this truer than in a job interview. Take two girls, one fat and one skinny, let&#8217;s assume that they have similar qualifications&#8230; Who do you think is more likely to get the job?</span></p>
<p class="p1"><span class="s1">If you guessed skinny then bingo, you got it in one.</span></p>
<p class="p1"><span class="s1">People assume that if you are fat, you’re probably going to be really lazy, sit around all day and get nothing done.</span></p>
<p class="p1"><span class="s1">Dating can also be a struggle for curvy girls (and guys)</span></p>
<p class="p1"><span class="s1">Maybe this is down to low confidence and self-esteem or maybe it&#8217;s down to. ‘fat- phobia’ or internalised fat-hate. Basically, this boils down to curvy girls (and guys) seeing themselves unworthy of love because of their size.</span></p>
<p class="p1"><span class="s1">A third of all men actually prefer curvy girls so whilst there might be a few less fish in the sea, you don’t have ‘wait until you have lost that bit of extra weight’ before finding love.</span></p>
<h4 class="p1"><span class="s1">Not everyone is a fan</span></h4>
<p class="p1"><span class="s1">Even though the Body Confidence Movement has plenty of support not everyone is on board.</span></p>
<p class="p1"><span class="s1">Lisa Kaplin of Mind Body Green says that “the positive body image movement is yet another dangerous fascination with women&#8217;s appearance and not women&#8217;s overall well-being.”</span></p>
<p class="p1"><span class="s1">Ok, but we live in a world which is pretty much obsessed with how we look and even though we’d like to think that our self-worth would be based on other factors such as personality and success, it isn’t. Fat-shaming and judging people on how they look happens so often that we really need a positive body image revolution like the BCM.</span></p>
<p class="p1"><span class="s1">So what do you think, is the Body Confidence Movement a good thing or not?</span></p>
