<div>It was before I even started Fashion Killer. When I was 12, I started my first blog, Teen Gossip. I was really into celebrity culture, fashion and writing, so rather than annoying my friends all day talking about it, I decided to start a blog. A few years later, my interest in celebrity culture faded, but my love for fashion remained. After having a conversation with a mentor about wanting to be journalist and presenter (think Giuliana Rancic, with a sprinkle or Joan Rivers and the grace of Oprah Winfrey), he suggested I start my blog up again.</div>

<div><b>Do you feel there is a pressure for curve models to look a certain way?</b></div>

<div>Definitely. I wrote a post about it on my blog, but it’s strange being in an industry that determines whether you’ll get the job or be paid based on the way you look. Obviously, I know what I signed up for. But going from judging yourself as a child and young teenager to now going to castings, and going on set and having others judge you, does put pressure on you. It’s no longer just you seeing your flaws, but others.</div>

<div><b>What’s your advice for aspiring curve models who don’t know where to get started?</b></div>
<div></div>
<div>Use social media to your advantage. Embed yourself in the <a href="https://www.insyze.com/blog/body-positive-messages-from-plus-size-bloggers-to-you/">(plus-size) community</a>, create content that shows your ability and don’t give up.</div>

<div><b>Do you think that the attitude towards plus size women and fashion has changed in the last couple of years? </b></div>

<div>For sure! Look at Cosmopolitan October magazine cover with Tess Holiday wearing just a bodysuit. That wasn’t something you saw on the cover 5…or even 10 years ago. There’s still a lot of things that need to be done, and changes that need to be made. But I trust that it will happen.</div>

<div><b>Do you ever get days where you feel low in body confidence. If so, what’s your best piece of advice for someone feeling low in confidence about their body?</b></div>

<div>I’m still trying to figure it out myself. Recently, I’ve found a song that just lifts my spirits, listened to it ten times, if need be, and danced. I also have a ‘laugh’ saved folder on Instagram, so if I ever feel low I refer to that folder for a pick me up. But most importantly, knowing and reminding yourself that you are worthy, you are enough and tomorrow will be better.</div>

<div class=""><span class="">I think my blog has evolved with my style – I am more sure of myself now, both in terms of what I wear and what I want to write about.</span></div>

<div class=""><span class="">I’ve also become more conscious of the fact that I do have a platform to talk to others, so I want to be conscious of things like not using or partnering with brands that aren’t cruelty free (I made the decision to go cruelty free in 2014); make sure I’m talking about important things like wellness checks and mental health etc.</span></div>

<div class=""><span class="">Ditch the things that are making you feeling bad about your body, and surround yourself with positive influences.</span></div>

<div class=""><span class="">For me, this means taking a step back and looking at who I’m following online, what I’m reading/watching and what my friends and family are saying to me. Also, be kind to yourself.</span></div>

<p><strong><i class="">Do you ever face negativity for your size? If so, how do you respond?</i></strong></p>

<div class=""><span class="">I do, and to be honest most of the time I ignore it and just block people.</span></div>

<div class=""><span class="">There’s no point in arguing with people who are committed to having a negative opinion of you, and there are plenty of ways and resources for them to educate themselves if they want to do that.</span></div>

<div class=""><span class="">I’d rather spend my time empowering others and being a positive voice. However negativity does sometimes affect me, and I make sure I talk to people I trust like my partner, my family, my friends and my therapist about things that do bother me.</span></div>

<p class="p1"><span class="s1">Tess Holliday (real name Ryann Hoven) has a real rags to riches story; growing up on a trailer park in Laurel, Mississippi, being bullied at school and even having to cope with her mother being paralysed after being shot by her boyfriend. Tess “estimates that the family moved around 60 times in a handful of years.” during her nomadic childhood which may have led to her being ‘socially isolated’ at school where she was also bullied for her size.</span></p>
<p class="p1"><span class="s1">Tess Holliday jokes that she “wanted to become a model out of delusion. There just weren’t any Petite models over a certain size and Tess believed that she could change this. It didn’t get off to the best of starts though as at her first modelling audition in Atlanta when Tess was 15 she was told that she was “too short and big” and would be “lucky to even do catalogue work.”</span></p>
<p class="p1"><span class="s1">Despite setbacks, Tess didn’t give up her dream, moving from Seattle and then later to L.A. to focus on her modelling career whilst juggling being a new mother. Her first big break came when she was cast in the A+E show HEAVY were she was discovered on modelmanagement.com.</span></p>
<p class="p1"><span class="s1">Social media has played a huge part in Tess’ success. Tess Holliday was ‘discovered’ by UK based MiLK Model Management through Instagram. Leading to major campaigns with Yours clothing and Simply Be as well as People magazine and Vogue Italia.</span></p>
<p class="p1"><span class="s1">In 2015 she helped launch the ‘plus size’ clothing range at Target and is a positive role model for body image. By encouraging people to embrace their figures and not to judge people solely on body shape and size.</span></p>
